If you have his business name and contractor's license, you can get on your states Contractor Licensing Board and file a complaint with them.
I agree with Sharon. You can also call your local TV station . They may have a reporter that follows up on consumer complaints. If this happened some time ago and you want to repair it. Dig down below the ground level about two inches deep under the edge of the slab. Fill the "trench" with gravel and try to pack it down. Get some cement patching compound and mix a stiff batch (not too much water). Stuff the concrete under and flush with the slab smoothing it out. The concrete patching compound has polymers in it to adhere to old concrete.
Oh my goodness! I am so sorry! In your spare time take photos, lots and lots of photos from every possible angle of the bad work and file a Police report on top of filing a claim on the Contractors License Board and making a claim with his insurance carriers for breech of contract among other things. There is free legal help out there, this is cause for using it.
Check your building codes, as obviously your contractor may have cut corners you don't even know about yet, and get help to fix this and any other work left unfinished, except this time check their license, insurance and references first.
Sorry to hear this happened to you, I know this all too well. It's been almost a year since I have been left high and dry with pits, nics and holes as well as smeared concrete on existing sidewalk on my front poured entry landing and steps. Paid my Contractor who promised to come back to finish the job (that was way back in November - it is now end of May) and can't get him to even respond to me. He treats me with contempt and as if I am bothering him, told me it's a small thing and he promised to take care of it this Spring and nothing happened. I dropped my guard because he came recommended from a family member that he is friends with and did not do my homework. This is the type of contractor that laws have been made for and the reason for all these nightmare stories.
there are soooomany "Contractors" out there who may or may not be certified. Always check bonifieds, and a back ground check. Last roof here on house no.3...the only roofer was a newbie. Learning curve for him. Under bid the job. He did do very good work. Had to tear off 4 layers of shingle. Last dude who owned this place didn't get a permit or inspection done B4 shingleing
hindsight! lol I went with recommends from others -- and THEY in turn sent me to others (of course within their circle) and I got "took". I could probably have saved $40,000 but no written contracts ( I didn't get a few things on receipts etc.) but... I think I'm going to leave that chapter of my life in the "lesson learned" column.
I HAVE to laugh tho... I'm trying to finish up the drywall (yeah the interior is NOT completed either) anyway - I've discovered the studs are anywhere from 7" to 16".... asked for 16 on center... uhhhh NOPE that didn't happen either. It's definitely been a LEARNING process.
Thank you ALL for your help!
