How big should drain holes be, how much rock and top soil do I need

The holes must be large enough for proper drainage.Rocks are not needed.Fill the tub up will a garden soil not top soil.

If you are going to plant acidic loving plants, you can fill one half with leaves. For example, Oak leaves. Tomatoes love Oak leaves that turn into compost after some time. This makes the pot lighter and you will need less garden soil.
