We used pressure treated lumber on our antique bench and table, cutting the boards to fit the slots. I left it unpainted or stained as I liked the way it looks weathered, and wont need any maintainence.
Check out composite planks.
Some were made of teak, however oak, cypress and redwood are good choices too., ((Oak hardwood looks really nice after it is finished)).
