Mad Hatter Garden Decor

Warmer weather sends me straight to my garden, which I like to fill with lots of brightly colored flowers. I’ve been decorating my garden with a “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” theme in mind, making whimsical dragonflies and a brightly colored table for my outdoor space. It made sense to create something inspired by the Hatter himself, and that’s how this idea was developed.
Supplies Used to Make Mad Hatter Garden Decor: (Almost everything came from Goodwill San Antonio!)
- Large lamp shade
- Plate
- Clock
- Teapot
- Artificial flowers
- Floral Foam
- Dowel Rod
- E-6000 adhesive
- Battery operated string lights
- Americana Multi-Surface Satin Paint in two shades of Turquoise, Flamingo, Coocoa Bean, and Orange Sorbet
Step one: Use tape to mark lines on the lamp shade. Paint alternating sections with the two turquoise colors. Let the first application dry, then apply the second one. Once it is dry, remove the tape.
Step two: Paint the plate turquoise.
Step three: Paint the clock Flamingo pink.
Step four: Paint the teapot orange. Add colorful stripes that are turqoiuse, pink, and brown.
Step five: Fill the teapot with floral foam. Place the clock upside down in the opening of the teapot, and glue it in place. Cut a dowel rod to glue behind the clock, like a tripod leg, to keep the clock from falling backwards.
Step six: insert floral stems in the foam behind the clock. This will help hide the dowel rod and add to the whimsy of the piece. Arrange the flowers as desired.
Step seven: Glue the lamp shade upside down to the plate to create the hat. Glue the hat onto the three legs of the clock.
(optional) Tape battery operated string lights inside the lamp shade. Otherwise, this makes a lovely centerpiece or just a fun decorative item! Have fun crafting and creating Mad Hatter garden decor for your summer decorating!
