As long as you seal it there shouldn't be issues, there are several option for sealants- http://www.theweathereddoor.com/2014/06/tips-on-prepping-mixing-painting-and.html
I agree with using a sealer. For best results be sure to use one that is manufactured for the paint brand you are using.
