How to Repurpose Your Old Entertainment Center

I had two of these old oak entertainment centers that I think everyone had. One we bought, one came from a garage sale long ago. Now everyone has them for sale at garage sales. I didn’t want it for an entertainment center any more, but thought I could do something with it.

What a great idea Lisa. I love that you used it to organize office supplies. I can see these being used in a classroom too. The cubbies could even be built in if you have the right tools to make them yourself. We do. I also peaked at what you did with the doors. Great job.

We had changed the inside of our giant entertainment center a few years back to put a larger flat TV in there---but altho the piece was nice looking---as these things go!!!!----it was tippy and wasted a LOT of space---these things were DEEP for the older TV's. So this time we lopped off the top part--where the TV actually goes---and lopped off the top board with the decorative edge. We placed the top board over the base---with the drawers---for a finished edge---and placed the TV on top. We plan on mounting the TV on the wall and putting a shelf between the two side pieces to tie it all together. We bought two side shelf units---from what had been a giant TV armoire/shelving 3 piece unit!---at Habitat ReStore---and plan on staining the TV part to match. Now we have more room; less of an overwhelming big hole in the LR and it looks custom built the way it fits the space available. When we were at ReStore over several visits we saw many of these units for CHEAP that could be re-used as many things---we have seen pics of them as kitchen storage; kids room; workshop and craft spaces. You CAN paint them even tho they have coated pressed wood pieces---there are several tutes on PINTEREST and HOMETALK
