It's a small room with only one window I use as my office. Also, I'm a visual learner, so ideas with pictures would be especially helpful! Thanks for your help!!

My MIL kitchen was paneled and very dark. This is just one idea: they filled the grooves from ceiling to floor, then put up white textured wall paper over all of it, then painted it an off white color. Turned out beautiful. In her den there was the same paneling, they first primed it with Kilnz, then painted it with a very pastel light green. turned out beautiful and the room was so much brighter. Wish I had some pictures to send you.

Sand walls lightly and wipe walls down.Prime with Bin. You can get this at any paint store. It has an alcohol base and drys rapidly. Terrible smell so open the windows and exhaust with a fan if possible. This product is necessary because the paneling will bleed thru any other primer. You should caulk the seams where each board meet ( ex. every 4 feet) and everywhere there is a space like corners and trim and molding. These places will stand out Then you are ready for 2 coats of a good quality paint. Before you begin be sure to paint the ceiling first that way if you mistakenly hit it with other paint you can touch it up without making a mess. Ceilings should be done every 5-7 years. If you want to get a little decorative you can paint the 1st coat with a flat paint and do every other strip with a semigloss or different color to get a striped effect. You can also just stick to one color and shade. The flatter the paint the more imperfections it will hide. This project is involved but it is well worth the effort.

    1. sand walls.....2. wipe walls......3. prime.......4. caulk......5. paint ceiling.......6. paint 2 coats. Enjoy your new space.

i have lived in many houses with outdated paneled walls- i simply painted them- leaving the grooves and the grain of wood showing for texture and interest. They always turned out beautifully.

Pull the paneling off and do the walls right . Labor intensive but worth it even when resale is coming. Paneling means problems to buyers . Wallboard them for a more perm fix .

Agree with Sor... Do it right. Get rid of the paneling and drywall.
