If your basement is cinder block, use Drylock. It's easy to apply with a roller or brush.
There are thing you can do to the exterior of your house to keep it dry as well. I am at the bottom of a steep hill. I had to dig a wide shallow depression a few feet from the house....the shallow depressin let the water stand and percolate into the soil. I also banked dirt up on to the sides of the foundation.
