How to put socket in black plumbers pipe and insulate it so no shock?

Making plumbers pipe lamp and want to use a open key-less socket. How can I put this socket in the black plumbers pipe and insulate it so no one will get a shock? Can you cover it with flex seal or the rubberized stuff they use to cover pliers handles? Another said a silicone caulking would work also? Thank you for your suggestions.
