You can use any long poles, such as tree branches or 2"x 2" wooden slats , etc. you just secure them at the top with wire or twine and spread the posts out like a teepee frame would be.
Gather branches and tie twine at top
bamboo poles work great too and last for ever especially if you have a neighbor with it growing all over
I don't think bamboo grows in peoples yards in Minnesota, I think it is more of a southern plant!
