How can I get rid of dicondra shoots coming up in the bermuda. It seems to be spreading and I don't use chemicals in my yard. I had cancer and I am very scared to use anything that is not natural. I have been pulling all the other weeds; though this type isn't easily clumped in a single shoot to remove by hand.

Howard Garrett's site (dirtdoctor.com) is a good source of organic solutions to many garden problems. I have used the 20% vinegar solution on different weeds and grasses and it worked well, You may need to treat more than once to fully kill the weed. Be careful it is indiscriminant, and will kill your Bermuda as well.

I'm sorry to hear you had cancer, but not all things natural will take care of your weeds without killing your grass, occasionally you may need to resort to chemicals. When I was in nursing school in the 70's the results of a cancer study really shocked me. Sterilized dimes were put under rats skin and caused cancer due to the inflammation. Anything could cause cancer. Also all things labeled organic are not always organic. My husband was a long haul truck driver for over 50 years. He called me once with a story I will never forget when I see organic veggies. A crop of tomatoes that were high end for a high end organic store went bad and that particular driver couldn't accept the load at the dock. He called the person handling this for the store and he told him to pick up a load at another place that wasn't organic and the store would just put them in the store where the other ones go and label them as organic. My husband says that he had heard of this before, so just how organic is the organic produce we purchase.

Dear concerned, Even Natural can be poisonous! Some times we have to result to chemical means. If you are that concerned about your lawn with the weeds then you have no choice but to hand weed or call a processional lawn service and voice your concerns over you condition. Most herbal pesticides loose their potency to touch in several days. And Nancy Turner's story are true. As a Master Gardener, I know these horror story's are real and there are times that you just have to bite the bullet and do the thing that is least dangerous to nature especially the pollinators and water sources.
