Lavender makes great grou cover. Once established you can transplant to new places. Has a lovely purple flowers and smells good also. I live in Oklahoma with the summers get pretty hot also. Hibiscus is a big beautiful flower that is great for the west side of your house. It comes back every year and so does the lavender. So plant wants and enjoy for many many years ahead.
Latana,
Marygolds, this is great, and save the blossom, for seeds for next yr. Tulips, and Daffadills, and Iris's. These are great.
Try dianthus and hyssop. They love heat and use little water. Also sedums are drought tolerant.
When I was in Texas I made myself a fine succulent and cactus garden. Love those euphorbia Pencil trees.
