Agree with Janet. Raspberries like lots of sun and quite a bit of water. They do best in fairly well drained soil. Depending on the variety, you'll likely need to thin the old stalks out annually to give the newer stalks room to grow and produce fruit.

We have ours planted in Wood Boxes my husband built...2 ft Wide by 12 ft long .

They run North and South... You can build them as deep as you want.. ours are

1 ft deep. These boxes Drain well, at the 6 ft point they are reinforced with a metal plate that is screwed into the Wood and a piece of Rebar is cut and pounded into the ground tight against it.. there are 3 boxes in each row.. Corners are screwed in too ( angle iron that hubby drilled holes in... we have Red Raspberries, Golden Raspberries and Purple ones.. We also have our Black berries in boxes at the SE corner of our main Garden Area.. We will have to thin these out next year.. We also have Kale and Celery planted in boxes beside the dog where you only see a little bit of the Corner at the top of the photo. ( We put Weed cloth as well as newspapers in the bottom of all the boxes ...Then filled with Garden Dirt and Compost.
