What's the best way to replace cushions for outdoor furniture?

All replacement cushions are not firm enough or thick enough. What is the best way to solve this problem without costing an arm and a leg?

we had the original thick cushions recovered by the company who made them - NOT CHEAP
You can buy foam pads at Walmart and craft stores. A designer on TV made new cushion covers from shower curtains. If you can sew, that is an easy, pretty, and inexpensive way to solve your problem.
How about making your own? Use the current cushions as a pattern.
I have just used black PVC to cover a bench cushion and then put white fablon strips on top to make a weatherproof pad
