What can I plant in a very wet location?

There is a drainage ditch near the end of my backyard. There's an area of about 5 feet after that to the neighbor's fence. That 5 foot section is my problem. While there is grass growing there, I can't use my lawnmower due to the area being so wet (wheels sink right in). Using the weed eater is killing my arms and takes a lot of time. Is there some kind of plants or ground cover that I could plant that wouldn't need much care?

Maybe you could use some of those plants that are meant for ponds. I would check with a local plant nursery and see what they suggest.

If it always stays wet, take advantage and plant cat tails. They will look nice and soak up lots of the moisture. You could plant some flowers in front of the for a little color.

Thanks, Marlene. This is my first summer in my new home. The neighbors tell me it stays wet most of the time, so I appreciate your suggestions!

If grass does well in the location, I think I would kill what is there and buy some a variety that only grows 3-4" like kyoto dward mondo grass seed... http://www.onlineplantguide.com/Plant-Details/1792/
