Hi Michele instead of blocking your view all the time with shrubs or a trellis you could purchase blackout shades to pull down at night. You could also get light blocking curtains http://amzn.to/2skDOX8 that are not horribly expensive. That way you get the best of both worlds. I also took into consideration that the plants usually don't stay green all year plus you will still get some light peeping through the leaves and branches. Thank ewe - we do have shades & they are a hassle to pull up & down when a lovely evergreen of some sort can filter for us. our house is called the mouse house for a reason - 450 sq feet. Do you want a photo of it to show askers? How do i send you the file for folks to reasoned about the best evergreen living filters for next to a road please

I would just darkly tint the windows . It will help you with the electric bill as well .
