What do you do to get rid of Aspen tree suckers growing up in your yard?

There is no easy way to do this that doesn't involve killing the tree, as far as I know. Are you open to killing and replanting some trees?

  we have already taken the tree out, but little trees keep coming up all over the yard

Both Aspen and Pin Cherry throw an unbelievable amount of suckers. When I had trees, I would spray the suckers with Roundup. They'll die, but unfortunately, will still come back. I didn't have a problem with the Roundup killing the trees but I also didn't spray the tree trunk.
