"Bucket" Gardening...very, Very Satisfactory!
The plants wont be as big but they do like being planted together. Use a 5 gallon bucket, make sure it has holes for drainage. Let the cucumber droop down and cage the tomato.
5 gallon for Tom's. Use bush cukes
5 gallon bucket will work, 1 gallon is too small. Drainage is your friend in container gardening. Like bucket on a tray of pebbles so water isn't standing. Use tomato cages for both b/c support is needed to hold the weight of the fruit. You might enjoy some herbs in containers too. Easy to grow in containers, scent is nice in a sitting area, good for oil infusion, freezing, drying for cooking and as potpourri. A bit of sage in a bonfire keeps mosquitos away and smells so Earthy!
I have attempted cucumbers several times in large containers, and once in one of those topsy turvy things. No cucumbers. I never see bees on them. I think I'll try to pollinate them myself. Has anyone tried to do that? Just found out they have male and female blooms on the same plant.
