With kids or pets, I have to do mine more often. I spot treat and use a spray bottle and some elbow grease for any tough stains. Then steam clean the total room.

Its best to do so at least 1 time per year, but if you want to clean more, try the steam cleaning option. It won't do as much damage- best of luck!
