I love the cottage look! I would suggest either painting or staining the concrete, using the interlocking rubber tiles or placing a cute indoor/outdoor carpet in it. A few plants and some wicker furniture...voila!
Start with staining the concrete. I used a concrete stain then tweaked the color using an oil-based cedar stain over top and finished with concrete sealer. Love it! The rough finish is because I also troweled a light layer of additional cement over the smooth finish to get a real stone look.
