Chalk paint doesn't require any prep. That said, you may want to sand the uneven areas before painting.
I agree with Elizabeth! Wash them down with soap and water, lightly sand, and apply the chalk paint. You will want to use a top coat on the chalk paint. Wax is a good option but with the use the cabinets will get I would suggest a matte topcoat like what Rustoleum offers or any other brand you prefer.
Just make sure they are clean and oil free. I used dawn w vinegar water. Then just paint thats the beauty of chalk paint
Awesome, thanks all. I guess I was expecting it to be a lot more complicated. I've always been told that painting cabinets is a huge nuisance and I shouldn't do it, and now there is no reason not to. You all are great, and I appreciate the help!
Use "TSP" to clean before painting. It will remove the sheeem from the paint and give some tooth for the new paint to adhear better. It will also remove and oils that have accumulated .
I painted right on top of mine. No prep needed. Adhered to gloss latex no problem.
