What combinations of succulents go nicely together in a flower bed?

i raise hens and chicks i have 10 kinds semperviviums those in an array of colors along with a large rock here and there and small rock or pea gravel as your base would be gorgeous in my opinion they never need water they live around here thru the winter at 6 degrees and im zone 7 weve had a couple really cold snaps i have red, green, red tip, etc

Plant whatever strikes your fancy! There is no right or wrong way to do this. If it looks pretty to you, it works. Be sure to mulch to make them stand out and keep them happy.

I have a very narrow strip of soil, about 10-12 inches or so, alongside my house, and it sits in the blazing hot sun most of the day, facing southwest. I tried growing several different plants, but none worked for long. The soil there is also very sandy. Then I found succulents.

I started off with a multi--pack of hens and chicks. They did quite well, so I then planted one or two other sedums with tiny leaves. But this is a very long space, so I could go broke buying individual plants at about $6.00/pot. So I bought a mat of succulent "tile" ($14 at Lowes), it was about 12"x24". I cut this mat (it has a fiber backing) of succulent plants into several strips, and interplanted them with the plants already there. They filled in beautifully, and now are doing quite well. They only need to be watered about once or twice a week, using a watering can. One or two of the plants are more aggressive, so I occasionally cut some of them out so they don't overwhelm the other, more delicate sedum.
