Try cardboard covered by mulch. Also garden centers carry weed cloth that helps control weeds and invasives.
You need to just keep pulling it up repeatedly and it finally want come back.
Pour buttermilk on them where the roots are. Or vinegar.
Try pine needles. They kill almost st everything because of the high acidity. Then plant an acid loving plant there
Vinegar is my go to.
