I have grown them in a large pot.
By the end of the season the roots reached through the drain holes into the ground.
I have grown them in old whiskey barrels before.
My preference is straight into natural soil
Cherry tomatoes will grow very rapidly, so make sure your pot is big enough to allow for lots of growth and use a small pot trellis like this one! http://www.gardeners.com/buy/jardin-pot-trellis/8587120.html?utm_campaign=PLA&utm_medium=googleshopping&utm_source=google&SC=XNET9529&gclid=CjwKEAjwvYPKBRCYr5GLgNCJ_jsSJABqwfw7V-6Ddl_UNyPiDYJm29BAspGeD54xdHTA71ijgkOnShoCdizw_wcB&kwid=productads-adid^92861478158-device^c-plaid^197174208038-sku^8587120-adType^PLA
Hi! Make sure you use a large pot, and have a trellis handy! My potted cherry tomatoes have gone crazy! I water them every other day, and put my used coffee grounds in the pot! You can also give them a small teaspoon of Epsom salt weekly!
Good rich soil, well drained, sunlight.
Try to use a large pot :) Good luck!!
