Could someone give me some ideas about how to use a wooden clothes basket from the 50's? It's in perfect shape ( 'cept for one wire handle is missing!)

You could make it into a planter or hanging planter. You could paint it and use it as storage.

I hate to paint it..as it's so old. Do you think I could just stain it?..or just leave as is and use it for storage? It would not work for a hanging planter as it's too big...I don't want to ruin it, as it was my moms. Thank you so much for your suggestions!!

If it is large enough you could store blankets or throws in it in the living room.

If you have a very large wall you could hang it with maybe a nice floral arrangement in the center?? I had a basket repaired recently. I found a basket weaving guild on line and a lady there did it. Looks wonderful.

What a great memory catcher. Wouldn't stain it either. Would get a great matching material and line it using glue gun or attaching velcro tabs. (Glue removable by applying ice to each glue spot. Once cold it pops right off. No damage to basket.) Ours is placed by front door for shoes. Once liner becomes dirty I pop ir off and into the washer.

I'd love to have a basket like that to show off my vintage tablecloths and aprons. I would screw or nail the basket to the wall, with a small block of wood under the bottom end to elevate the basket a bit. Then I could have the tableclothes inside the basket, spilling out a little. I would put little cup hooks along the rim of the basket and place my antique aprons and other kitchen linens on display. Just another idea for you! Best wishes 😇

Thanks Jewell, the basket is abt 24" at top and round...might stick out too much...but this is a wonderful idea for a smaller squarish one!!

Staining might be hard because you would need to sand it. If you still like the way it looks, I would just use if for a blanket basket, or to hold books or magazines, so it stays in tact.

That's what I decided to do...I lightly washed it down with Murphy's Oil Soap to protect it...already have some of the blankets she made inside!! Thank you!

Roll up your bath towels & stand them up in the basket. Put on your bathroom floor near your tub/shower.
