Have fun!!
You need some BRIGHT color--- the house and existing shrubs are dark, so you need contrast. Suggestions-- some light colored grasses, a couple of white rose bushes to match the window trim, some yellow lilies. I would also consider painting the front door a bright color to contrast all of the dark.
Agree that you need color to brighten your home. I think 2 snowball or wedding bouquet bushes would be lovely, maiden hair grasses, and a
miniature Japanese maple. Besides painting your door, potted flowers can also brighten your entrance
Thanks for your input.
Maybe add some white narrow "shutters" or some other kind of décor to the sides of the lower and upper right windows to add lightness and take away from the dark color of the brick. A white front door to match would brighten that area, too. As for plants...light colored, airy plants, or those with white blooms, like white lilac, mock orange, pampas grass. And then add pops of bright colors along the edges of your garden area. You have a beautiful home!
remember that contrasting sizes make things appear different...for instance tall plants will make the house appear smaller while low bushes will make it appear larger...in your case I would plant low and medium height closer to the house and taller specimens further from the house and off to the sides....what
I think that some rhododendrons would look beautiful. They come in many colors so you have some choices. Also hydrangeas are gorgeous.

I think your home is beautiful. The left side is already nice, perhaps some colorful annuals around the edge of a mulched bed. The right side could be made to balance the left. It looks like planters next to your steps; I would put in annuals to match the mulched bed edging. I would not change the color of your door or add shutters. I think that would detract from the stately elegance of your home. With a lush well kept lawn, you have your castle. I would relocate the blue urn. Be happy in your home sweet home!
