I highly bed to begin with and I really regret not doing so. Asparagus will last about 20 years so it's well worth the investment. The main plant of the strawberries will die back but the runners will take their place so you have a continuous supply. Good luck with your garden!
You should start preparing your asparagus area this year for planting next spring. A bit of work in the beginning but so worth it. You can also do a search and get loads of info on both strawberries and asparagus. Rhubarb is another perennial plant that I love. Strawberry/rhubarb pie is delicious!
