Great Natural Roof for Bird Feeder
Douglas Fir bark from a mature dead tree is pretty thick and will last a very long time. Its natural curve makes a great roof or cover over an old barn wood feeder. This one has been sitting outside, exposed to temps between 100 degrees F & -32 F below zero for about ten years here in Montana. We get about 18" of moisture a year with about 6' to 8' of annual snowfall so the bark is frequently wet. We've tried Pine bark but it doesn't last but a year or two. Only one time did I ever put a clear sealer on the bark & it is as good as it was ten years ago.
