If it were me, id do simple lines at different angles to kind of highlight the cat. Just black lines. They would enhance but not overwhelm with color or exta patterns.
Small butterfly or bird that the cat is watching, cat on grass or slate patio, sky with light clouds
The cat is lovely. I would leave it as it and frame it in the hot pink!
A soft teal would make that cat pop!
So pretty. I would leave it white and use a colorful rame or border as Vivian suggests

The safest thing to do now is a frame in your favorite color only. When it comes to you ..
and it will ...then add more. You may be later inspired by something you see, where you place the painting, or who knows what. If you move forward now it may not be pleasing to you and you cannot go backwards.
Beautiful work!,

Wow, this is awesome! Any garden scene would work as a background, and the pervious comment of adding a butterfly (or anything really) as a focal point for the cat is wonderful. It would also give you the opportunity to add different color and texture while keeping the entire piece bold. Great job. keeping it as is and letting it come to you is nice too.
is there an app for this?lol must be one where I can take my picture and add backgrounds..thanks for the help.. and welcome more.
Kat, I consulted my oldest granddaughter who is artistic and has even sold some of her paintings. She suggested that you may want to consider an ombre effect in blue beginning with a thin darker blue along the outside edges, gradually lightening up as you move towrd the cat, ending with a very light blue next to the cat. Sounds good to me (that's why I'm posting here for you to think about) ;)
Maybe a grass/garden on the base, but otherwise I'd leave it. Frame with a colorful mat that accents one color on the cat, or even a double mat!
Yes, think that would balance nicely!
I like the idea of the butterfly, but I would place it on the end of his nose. The background I would paint a pastel to make the cat pop.
Thanks for the help
Either some mice or some butterflies would be cute, scattered around pretty kitty. It's gorgeous.
what about a very pale ombre using some of the colors in the cat? Start with a VERY light shade at the top and gradually build to the darkest at the bottom - but make sure they are muted so the cat stays as the focus. Very lovely cat!
I would leave the background as is and double mat it pulling out colors that you wish to highlight then frame. Beautiful piece! Be proud! 💖
I would leave it alone and frame it in alike color and paint a small bird at eye view of cat on the frame.
