Maybe use a coated wire to create an easy "frame". I was thinking coated wire because if your room is hot or humid, regular wire may rust and discolor your lace. A few bows could be a nice touch. My niece put white christmas lights around her 4 poster. Her bed did have a frame, so i dont know about the weight of the lights without it.
PVC pipe is light weight, easy to cut and will not rust.
I have seen people use a hula hoop hung from the ceiling and then you wrap some material around it and then drape it for a canopy, you could then drape over the posts. Or hang one or two curtain rods from the ceiling to drape the material over and then over the posts.
Add lace to each post or just the head posts. Gather sufficient lace to drape from top of post to floor and secure with wide ribbon (to match the lace or pick a color from your decor). You can also hang a canopy from the ceiling at the head of the bed and drape it to the posts. Experiment a little with a sheet before you cut up your lace.
Thanks! A great idea!!
You could use a curved curtain rod from the wall, close to the ceiling. Panels of sheer curtains gathered onto the rod, down each side for a canopy look. add the lace to the side of the panels.. tie them of the top of the head board posts and let them hang down to show the lace close by the pillows.. Similar to what they do for a princess themes little girls room, but in an elegant decor.
