It sounds like whatever was used contained too much water. If you can close off the area with plastic sheeting, insert a heater to help dehumidify the area. If there is damage to the sub floor or if nails are pulling free, you may need to bring in a restoration service.
There's usually only one thing that will make hardwood flooring buckle : water . Start looking for a leak somewhere in or under your home . So sorry , I hate to see good hardwood go to waste .
