Information on Viking Sewing Machine

Shari on Jan 25, 2014I did a quick internet search and found you can download a copy of the instruction manual for this machine (cost $10). However, maybe the diagram they show on this link will answer the questions you have and you won't need the manual. Happy sewing! http://sewingmachinemanual.net/Sewing_Machine_Manuals/viking/Viking_6170_Instruction_Manual.htm1 marked as helpful Reply

Tammy on Jan 26, 2014JoAnn's Fabrics sells the this company of machines and they actually give classes for the machine. It's a very good machine and with mine I can sew through several layers of leather and blue jean material. Have a lot of fun.Helpful Reply

Lori J on Jan 26, 2014Tammy--It is solidly built! I doubted I could go wrong for $18 and the fact that it will sew through tougher fabrics has me over the moon.Helpful Reply

Mari on Jan 26, 2014My goodness. I just wrote you a small tutorial on all of your dials, how to use the "low gear" or ":power gear" On the machine to sew through the heavy stuff....and its gone. My mistake - any chance that you could just give me a call? Send me an email? I'm watching 4 of my grandkids right now ---11,9,7 & 3 and I can't possibly write more right now.....my business email is: calicarini at g mail dot com - I would be happy to give you a small tutorial on your basics over the phone. It will get you rolling. I have the answer for your dials, how they need to be set for various stitches etc..... Hope to hear from you soon. I'm on Eastern time right now.....let me know when we can talk. Send an email with your number, I'll send mine etc. More than happy to help gotta run!Helpful Reply

Lori J on Jan 26, 2014The quest for another machine came when the singer touch and sew my folks bought me when I was eight years old bit the dust--after nearly 40 years of hard service.Helpful Reply

Becky Arneth on Jan 27, 2014Hope the "Cams" came with your machine. I have had mine for 48 years and it is worth its weight in gold to me. Read the online manual...doubt you will need to download it. It is an easy machine to use.Helpful Reply

Judy on Jan 27, 2014I was given a machine without a manual & found a free download for it online. you might want to try that. Judging from experience I'd say that the top knob is for stitch width (zig-zag) & the bottom one is for stitch length. Take a piece of scrap fabric with contrasting color thread & play with it to be sure.Helpful Reply

Lori J on Jan 29, 2014I have three knobs--the upper left adjusts type of stitch (zig zag). Have the top right knob figured out--stitch length. I can't seem to reverse...the center knob of the upper right knob doesn't move (a diagram points it out as the reverse control). I don't have any of the accessories--but see no obvious way to make use of cams. The body is solid, but the dial offers a few options. It such a solid machine!Helpful Reply

Linda on Oct 21, 2014Hi Lori, I have the 6440 version of this machine. Unfortunately is has a broken cam shaft which cannot, I'm told, be repaired due to parts not being available any more. The black button in the center of the right knob is the reverse and if it doesn't work there may be a problem. I still have the machine and everything as I can't part with it. It is the best machine ever.Helpful Reply
