Yes. Clean them good and paint. There is a sealer that you should apply also after the chalk paint drys.

sanding etc., allows for the paint to adhere better and give you a longer lasting Finished product. Just an FYI, make sure you apply the dealer well after the chalk paint. Chalk paint removed VERY easily and I have only ever used it in non high trafficked areas as it wears away very easily.
