DIY Sunburst mirror
Wood veneer would be nice and thin.
Go to any place that sells paint and get those paint stir sticks. Easy to cut off the curved end. Get a piece of round wood just a bit larger then the mirror. Glue mirror to the wood round. You can paint the sticks or stain them. I would suggest a light sanding first. Then glue them around the extended round of wood to create your burst.
The paint stick are usually free. You may have to hit a few stores though as you don't want to cause a shortage at one place.
The links give you a great bunch of ideas. You can also recycle horizontal blinds. That would be fun and easy. When you do it can you post? Here is mine in case you need another sample.

Homage to the 70's Starburst Mirrors
Shims! I've made three one gray, one metallic, and one dark stained. The first one came out great, so I did two more. 👍
Really neat sunburnt mirror using Ikea branches and plain mirror. Directions on Buzzfeed.
I was thinking paint stir sticks too but you could also use wooden chopsticks, tongue depressor sized popsicle sticks, regular popsicle sticks.....or stick it on the centre of a larger wooden circle and glue shards of other broken mirrors around it in a sunburst design
