make a frame around the mirror using mdf trim and paint to compliment the decor (existing mirror) if you need to purchase a mirror, purchase one of the inexpensive door mirrors from Walmart or Home Depot, attach it using a panel adhesive to a larger piece of 1/4" mdf board (c entered) and add trim like a picture frame around the edges.
Find out first what do they want it to look like? Accessories, theme, etc. Go to something like Homegoods and look thru their damaged or discounted , or Hobby Lobby and their 40% off coupon works on alot. Using spraypaint and a few accessories you will have a mirror you like.
Purchase a "door mirror" and hang horizontally instead of vertically. Let the girls decorate as they wish. When they grow up and move out, let them take it with them, then you replace with something that suits your taste.

You could make a frame around the mirror with mosaic tiles --- even the peel and stick ones could look great!
I bought this mirror at Target over 15 years ago, the frame is plastic but painted metallic so it looks like a heavy metal. I hung it in a small bathroom to create the illusion the bathroom is bigger. The walls are sheet rock, so the light weight was no problem to hang. This is a "Door Mirror" turned on it's side.
