Ah, wouldn't we all like to win a makeover!
In the meantime, I have a plan of what I'd like the end result to be. Then I ask for plant and shrub cuttings from my friends. Lowe's and Walmart have clearance plants that need some tender care to bring back to full glory. I frequent both places. In the fall, lots of things are on discounts. I shop them.
It takes longer than a quick makeover, but the end will come.
BTW: there are plants that attract butterflys, etc. familiarize yourself with what grows best in your area (planting zone).
Great ideas Sal85902! If you want to try, there are several that come up on a google search.

Good luck!
I would suggest going on "Houzz" website and typing in "Ideas for Gardens" and you'll see plenty of inspiration. You may not have the money to duplicate the exact photo, of course, but it will give you ideas that you can work around and adapt to your budget. Another helpful site would be Better Homes & Gardens. Try and plan out your yard so you have sections for say, sunbathing/relaxing; a dining area; an area for the bbq (away from where you want to relax); a kids' area for play (if you have youngsters) and so on. Perhaps you like a sleek modern type garden with mostly shrubs/grasses and just pots of flowers for some color OR maybe you want an full, lush 'English garden' look with beds of flowers you can admire but also cut and bring into the home. Don't make the mistake I did and rush the process! I wanted it all done in one fell swoop and a few years later, I wished I hadn't as my tastes changed. Perhaps, you also want to grow a few vegetables or want a pond; just take your time - there are tons of ideas on the web!
Everyone wants to win a yard makeover! š Go to the sites that offer this and follow their submission instructions. Most want some sort of video of your space. Good luck!
Good luck
Thank you everyone for your comments. Most of the plants and trees in our yard came from the Lowes clearance rack and cuttings,I do have a small fish pond that I need to find the right spot for now that we added on a porch and I just planted a small garden with Bird house gourds Okra and tomatoes....thanks again y'all
I would google backyard makeover contests and enter every one of them. Then I would plant perennials. They are beautiful, come back every year and require very little upkeep. Some of them will spread too. Shopping clearance is a great idea and the pond is awesome. We bought .15 feeder goldfish at the pet store years ago and now they're the size of koi...without the expense!
