The best guarantee for success is to use a commercial-grade carpet fabric ( low level loop or quarter inch pile). Fabric paint is fine, but I prefer your basic flat-finish acrylic, water-based paint. Tape off your design or use a stencil and understand that the lines will be somewhat fuzzy because of slight paint bleeding. If you want a crisp line, paint a piece of linoleum (backside). You can seal the linoleum floor cloth with clear water soluble sealer.
  • there is no such thing as carpet paint. just use a rit carpet dye.
  • If you use any type of latex or acrylic paint the fibers will be hard thats why you must use a carpet dye. Do not listen to the above coment from pensacola Accents on Acrylic paints. Do your own test on something you dont mind destroying.

I have used and recommend latex paint with fabric medium. You can buy it at Hobby Lobby. If it feels a little rough just light sand it with a fine grit sand paper! I have also used spray paint on my outdoor rugs! I painted the fabric on this little bench in the pic!
