What is the fastest way to pit cherries & to stop birds eating them?

Pastry or piping tip or could use a chopstick. You can tie shiny and noise making things to branches to scare birds off (ex. old CD's/DVD's or alum pie pans).

I am not sure if you meant "pick" cherries but if you meant pit, I have the easiest way there is. Get a large straw, like for a milkshake. You can also use one of the straws from the drink mugs.

Then push the straw from the bottom on the cherry to the top and you are golden.

To help keep birds away, get some dollar tree snakes and put them on the ground, maybe even hang some from the trees. They also hate anything flashy so hanging strips of Mylar (from a used balloon) or old CD's. Hope those help.

Use a toothpick, un-bent paper clip, hair pin, or a metal orange stick (as for manicures). Insert whichever tool* you choose into the stem end of the cherry. You should feel it hit the pit.

Twist your implement of choice around the pit and pop it out. It will take you a few cherries to get the feel of it. Be patient, experiment a bit for the twisting motion that works best for you, and don't worry about the mangled mess those first few cherries may become – they'll still taste just as good.

AND the fastest way I know of to pit cherries is pop them in my mouth and bite down LOL --- well that works for MY cherries, but if you're going to share them and you don't have a cherry pitter make sure they are ripe, grab a soda bottle and a chopstick and follow the instructions in this video ;) Good Luck, Happy Eating, and thanks for using Hometalk to help solve your dilemma ;)

get cheap foil pie tins or old cds and hang them in the trees the noise and movement from the wind keeps the birds from eating your fruit. I have peaches that the birds got my whole harvest one year. The following year I tried this trick. Not a nibble. Also get a cherry potter to get the pits out Good luck
