It most likely won't kill them but as they get larger - they may be stunted where they bump into each other.
When planting anything, leave enough room for the plant (or tree), to grow to maturity. If you don't the plants and trees can grow awkardly and not pretty. Can stunt growth of either or both.

It really depends on the tree or the bush. Many trees and bushes live in harmony with each other check out the woods and forest. The trick is knowing the root behavior of your trees or/and bushes. If your trees or/and bushes do not come with directions, you should be able to go to your local garden center and find out their root behavior. From there you should be able to determine what to do.
