Need new backsplash for current uneven "brick" one.

Original backsplash from 1977. Rather gunky, too. Goes all the way around to the left to behind the sink, and to the right to the fridge. Needs to be easy, inexpensive.

The easiest thing would probably be to paint the brick or white wash the brick. Are the bricks real brick veneer type?

My first thought was that you could buy plastic faux tin ceiling tiles and glue them on there with liquid nails :) I used the product in my kitchen and LOVE it, it looks great, wipes down with soap and water and actually looks like old tin ceiling tiles. It is also very inexpensive, I bought mine on Amazon for $18 for a 2x4 foot sheet, and it cuts with a pair of scissors.

Why don't you clean up the old one first, with TSP, and paint it white or gray? You'll be surprised at what a difference it makes and its probably the cheapest option . Just be sure to use a paint that will be easy to clean up like a cabinet paint .

Sounds like the best idea! I'll start looking into paints, and I imagine I can get the TSP at WalMart or Lowes. Thanks!

I agree to paint it. All white or gray, or a mix or gray and white. You could also use a dry brush with a small amount of paint to let some of the red some through. I can’t wait to see what you decide.

Unless you plan to redo drywall, I'd go along with the painting or covering up ideas. Depending upon the countertop, you might even be able to attach a smooth backing and retile it with a more modern product, like glass or subway tiles.

Try putting a cork board over it. It will change the feel of the whole room.
