What kind of paint should I use to stencil on a rug.

I would like to know if there is a special paint I can use to stencil on a piece of carpet to make an area rug.

i used acrylic craft paint and it has worn off where the rug is walked on. I did not try to seal it with anything though.

They sell a fabric medium for paint for the purpose of painting on fabric. You can also buy fabric paint. Michaels carries both of these products. I used fabric paint on an outdoor rug last year and it still looks good. I used paint and the medium on an indoor rug 2 years ago and still going strong.

I have seen chalk paint painted on sofas... you water it down a bit more and it goes on beautiful. Now I have no idea how hardy it is, I just know that it can be used. I would use Fabric paint. You can go to any hobby store and find it.
