Do I need the able box for my new smart TV

How did you watch tv before purchasing the new one? Use the same service. Or call around or Google for television service providers in your area. Where I live there is NO reception, you must have a sattelite dish service or cable service.

My previous was connected to the Cox cable box. but that TV was not HD or a smart TV.

I assume it was supposed to be cable box. Yes, a smart TV needs a cable box if you have cable to watch TV. The smart part is because it is able to go online and watch Utube, etc. To do Hulu, etc. you need their hardware also.

If you don't have cable or satellite you'll need to try an antenna indoor/outdoor. Smart tv can do a lot of things but you'll need cable or antenna to bring the signal to the tv.
