My dog ate some leaves and than threw up. I could see the leaves undigest in the vomit. Should I removed all the Echinacea plants from the garden ?

They are not on the toxic list.

No, your pooch is safe. Dogs eat greens to settle their stomachs. If he keeps throwing up you may want to see a vet and find out why.

    Hope that helps

  • When you have pets it is your job to keep them safe. Here is a list of possible harmful plants. All dogs and cats instinctively know to eat grass (or plants) when they have an upset tummy, and generally they vomit immediately afterwards to get whatever is ailing them, out of their system. So my guess that was what your dog found. If ever in doubt, call the poison control center, your closest 24 hour vet - somebody . . . Also Google, know what your pet may have had access to or know what they ate. There are many more lists, all you need to do is Google, or ask for more help. Talk to your vet too.

Does your dog typically chew on plants? If not, no do not remove the plants. Pay attention to your dog and know their habits. If the dog is fine with water and food now, chances are it just had an upset tummy. If behavior is not normal, call the vet and get it in for a checkup asap.

The echinacea is safe. If your dog is a regular plant muncher, chances are he is seeking the enzymes to aid in digestion. This could be something as simple as an inappropriate diet (corn, wheat soy are no nos) or as complex as an issue with his liver or pancreas. Blood work will determine if he has an issue. I suggest you add vegetables to his meals or as treats. I give my dogs berries, carrots, broccoli and green beans on a regular basis. These are straight out of the freezer and they love them. No onion or garlic. As an aside, I had a Boxer, now deceased, that lived to 16, that thought 'green bean' was he recall command and it was infallible;)
