You will have to get rid of all the rot first ether by digging it out or taking off the trim, if there is trim, and cleaning the pillar.
If you dig it out, then fill the hole with wood filler. Then sand and repaint.
If the trim is rotted, take off the trim and go to Home Depot, Lowe's or similar store, match the trim and have them cut it to fit. Replace the trim, caulk and paint.
Are they rotting or damaged?
What exactly needs repairing? What are the pillars made of so we know what to suggest?
I had the same issue on my pillars. My contractor dug out the rotted area, filled it in with wood filler and rebuilt the base of the pillars with vertical square boards. Looked great when finished.
I would have someone come and look, and then decide if you want to DIY the solution or not. Good luck!
