Try wiping the leather with a little bit of olive oil on a paper towel.
I just asked the other day about leather restorer for my grandfather's boxing gloves and was directed to Amazon. I can't vouch for the product, yet, since it has not arrived. Perhaps head over there and check out the restorers they have available. The one I ordered has a fiber ball applicator due to the fragile state of the antique gloves, you won't have to worry about that with your piece and can probably get one cheaper that rubs on. Read the reviews, 9 times out of 10 they are on the mark.
