All the walks in our oder house had the ugliest floral wallpaper. When we tried to remove it we discovered WHY they were papered in such busy prints..the old plaster walls were damaged and not at all smooth. We couldn't afford to replace them at that time and painted over them without problems. But in the bathroom I used joint compound to texture over it, in order to hide the birder seams. It's been on for 16 yrs and has been fine. If I were you, I'd just leave the wallpaper and texture over it.
You may have been lucky it worked. I've been helping a friend fix up his mothers older home. At some point someone textured over wallpaper. Years later, as in now, the wallpaper is letting go of the walls. One corner peeled down and a few other spots are bubbling up.
Thank you all, for your answers! Actually, I intend to roll texture mud onto the wall, then emboss a pattern into it with a decorative paint roller. I'm afraid if I leave the glue on the wall, it might interfere with the finished product. I plan to paint it after the texture cures.
Remove it, as much as possible. Wallpaper glue is water soluble and can yellow. If it's on the wall and you texture over it the moisture may cause your texture not to adhere. It's worth the effort to remove it all rather than take a risk in my opinion.

I am assuming you are going to spray texture your walls.
As long as the wall are clean, fairly level, and the stuff you are spraying the texture onto is solid, it should work just fine.

I don't know about how much glue to remove when you are texturing, but I find when removing wallpaper and all the glue that a squeegee works great!
i didn't take glue off when i painted and it looked horrible so i had to go back and take off glue. wasted a whole afternoon

I sanded the glue off
also sanded textured cieling in the bathroom
