To start with it should be in a totally sunless spot.
Brush yoghurt on the mosaic and wait ....
Keep it in the shade all the time.
Yogurt or buttermilk and crumble moss over the buttermilk and keep in shade.
needs to be in shade and damp for moss to thrive. If that's not possible, plant a low growing ground cover like thyme. or use fake moss.
I've never tried it but have read you can take the yogurt or buttermilk and clumps of moss, whirl it in a blender until completely smooth, and paint it on the surface of what you want to be mossy. The dairy products feed the moss. I've read many comments that say it works great.

I agree with the yogurt idea. By spreading yogurt on new terracotta pot you have give them the nice patina of old pots too.
It needs lots of shade and a moist environment.
