Favorite area of home improvement:

I am updating a 1920's craftsman. All areas of home improvement are of interest to me. Especially trying to keep it period, but modern and clean at the same time.

    Followed 1 board on Apr 24, 2013
  • A $10 end table and a $19 headboard are used to make a bench for the kitchen table
  • We took the end table apart and reassembled to create the seat. Attached the headboard to the back. More details on the blog.
  • All the new wood was de-stressed, and then the whole bench was painted the same color. You can't tell that there were 3 different woods used :)
  • Painted to perfection! A comfy cushion.
  • Perfect addition to the kitchen table

  • Inexpensive art from Kirkland's fills the wall ...

Our Master Bath ... Then and Now

Sometimes, I can't believe how my taste has changed over the years ... with the "feel" in our master bath being no exception.

Blue chandelier Redo

I bought this chandelier at a yard sale this summer. It was was way to brassy and dated. I spray painted it Valspars Tropical Oasis and I cleaned up the crystals. It took me two days to ...»
put it back together because I asked my husband to take a before picture and he forgot. There were seven different sizes of crystals and it took forever to figure out. I planned on selling it but once it was completed I loved it. It is hanging in my kitchen now.

Family Room Reveal-Thrifty, Pretty & Functional

We bought this home 2 years ago & all along I had a vision for this room but..... with so much to get to & decorate I had to put this room on the back burner for a bit. So instead I ...»
re-used the furniture I had & made it work for the short term.

Slowly, I began adding in the pieces that I wanted & finally bought the sectional a few months ago. I don't think I am alone in saying that, sometimes we want so much for our home to look a certain way, the way we see in magazines but we forget that these

things take time. A room that is layered & filled with items and details that you LOVE evolves, over time. I had to tell myself this a few times:).

This family room makeover was done on a ridiculously SMALL budget.

I do believe that making your home pretty doesn't have to break the bank.

I shopped thrift stores, flea markets, outlet stores,I repainted, recovered, sewed, re-purposed, made and built things myself

to save some $.

  • I absolutely love this rustic barnwood table paired with these modern chairs. The mix of chrome, white and natural wood makes such a fresh, yet cozy combination. 1
  • I love the mixed woods here. The gray and the natural wood of the table and chair combined with the great texturing of the walls and upholstery complements the rustic decor beautifully. 2
  • Another great vintage/industrial piece is this book shelf. The natural wood and cast iron is gorgeous and the vintage-style candles displayed with a cloche is the perfect touch!

  • If you have a small blank wall, you have room for a floor to ceiling mattress spring bulletin board. 3
  • Putting the puzzle together with random junk pieces. Hmmm.. how will I do this?
  • First off, the rusty works got a good brushing with a BBQ brush to knock off the loose rust. Then a clear spray to protect YOU from needing a tetanus shot. (tip: use satin spray because old stuff is never shiny)
  • This cute little outdoor plant older grabbed from a friend's dump pile received a bulletin board centre and stain to pretty it up. And the rest is history.

When a mattress spring does a lot more than let you sleep in.

helped to organize my chaotic paperwork filled life to a rusty springy T.

At the time, this project (done back in 2010) and concept was new. Have you tried one yet? You'll love it!
