I've got a huge pot out on my deck right now, with the bush type pickling cucumbers. The reason being, is that we'll be moving over the summer, & I'm not about to lose my pickling cucumbers! I've done that many times with various veggies, LOL. Just remember, they'll need a lot of more water, & plant food Will help them, too.
Use a fairly large pot. Put it where you plan on having it in your yard. Make sure it will get plenty of sun. You will need it to be supported as it will want to wander all over the ground unless you have a trellis or fence the tendrils can grab onto to contain its viney growth. Use a good potting soil, not garden soil, as the potting soil is made specifically to add the nutrients it won't be getting from the soil in the ground. Use a fertilizer for tomatoes and vegetables to give it a boost. Don't foliar feed it as you will have great greens, but not so much cucumbers compared to when you feed the roots. Hope this helps! Any other questions, just ask and they are many here at Hometalk here to help!
If you have a space for containers pots or boxes use that and train them on a trellis or netting. I prefer this method even if you have a garden. Keeps the produce off the ground and easier to harvest.
they grow great in five gallon buckets
I planted them in a large garden pot, then I took a tomato cage and made a trellis when the vines started growing I tied them to the trellis and I had beautiful cucumbers (PS)works with squash (crooked neck) too, (very hard to do with acorn without using old pantyhose to hold hem up, You can also cover the trellis with screen to prevent vine borers, & other bugs.
On a small fence like lattice

Hello Cdavis; You can use any large containers. I personally (Once) used large Bakery buckets, which I got for free by asking!!!
At that time, I did not have a yard per say, but was determined to grow some fresh veggies!!!
Furthermore, a trellis will work wonders, in a pinch!!!
I hope that this will help you!!! Good Luck!!
i planted some in a very large styro pot..add some old wrought iron pieces & watered often. they will grow on the iron or sticks, need sun also.
