An aside, when my children were very small, their grandmother would decorate the window well on the stairwell. She had little vignettes, such as a miniture circus, a small town with a train running through it, an Indian scene (horses, teepees, people), and their most favorite of all, a similar scene straight out of Jurassic Park, featuring all sorts of dinosaurs. I don't know who had the most fun...my MIL dreaming up her "window designs" or my children's joy!
Good morning! If you go to the top of this page to the search box, type in Underground window well, and there is an article of 29 ideas. I would like to suggest my favorite.
Measure the window on the inside. Then measure from in the house to any frame or brace the window has. Now you have the minimum and maximum dimensions for a stained glass window to hang inside your house . You could shop your neighborhood and on line for a real stained glass window or a painted one. Or you could buy a new or old picture frameand paint one yourself on the window. If you buy an eight pane window, you can just fill it each pane with a different color. Or you could just tape coloring book pages on the back side of each pane, facing out. Then color the page on the panes. Be sure to add black or gray outlines so this looks like stained glass. Remove the paper and hang the stained glass creation in front of the window. For nighttime, hang or install a small spotlight focused on the window. Best wishes 😇
Make a miniature scene that's relaxing! Paint the steel with rustoleum paint, and place a few beautiful rocks, small real or artificial plants, whatever you like and see if that helps.
Our basement window wells are very deep. They actually made them out of ties instead of using the metal that usually are used. They are very durable and definitely more attractive than the metal. The house was built in 1954, so I assume they have been replaced at some point and I don't know if it had the corrugated metal before or not. Perhaps this could be an option for you.
Patricia Allen Oliver Ackerson - First do not block the drainage in the inside, because this to keep water out of your basement. Do not add anything to high because it will block sunlight. Shirley Riggins has a great idea also.
